We had a whistle stop trip to Austen - Maddie lives and works here and we now know what her apartment is like - very comfortable and she walks to work. How good is that?
On the way we stopped at a hole in the wall bbq joint and had the most delicious plate of smoked brisket and 2 sides. We also stopped at Buccees - seriously the largest petrol station anywhere - rows and rows of bowsers and a shop with its own bbq and old truck set up inside. Only in America.
Our gastronomic journey continued with Maddie choosing a Mediterranean themed restaurant in Austen where we had a fabulous meal with shared hummus plates and med inspired meals. Breakfast was in the same vein - great spot with great food and coffee - if Melbourne has a coffee culture, Austen is next level.
We visited the University of Texas Art Museum. Beautiful works on display. Amazing collections and my personal favourite - a 1989 sculpture depicting a Border Crossing - so evocative of the pain of this process.
All too soon we were at the airport to fly to Seattle - being with Adrian means we get great seats and service.
